A specially written US version, with hints, tips, and guidelines for the American freelance market is now available from Freelancers.co.uk. Boston, New York City, and San Francisco are major centers for publishing in the United States. Rates of pay for freelancers do vary a great deal, the two biggest variables being location and type of publication.  

Did you know that on the West Coast (California, etc.) rates for copyediting and proofreading are up to $10/hr. higher than the East Coast (New York, etc) for fiction, depending on the company you do editing for? Scientific, technical, and medical or textbook copyeditors may earn between $20-$50/hr., depending on the company and the complexity or otherwise of the work involved. Beginners welcome too!
